Argentina is located in southern South America. The surrounding countries are Bolivia to the north, and Brazil and Paraguay to the northeast, Uruguay to the east, and Chile to the west. On its east and south lies the Atlantic Ocean. The coordinates are 34 degrees south, 64 degrees west. The total area is 1,074,000 sq. miles (2,766,890 sq. kilometers). The country is the 8th largest country in the world and is smaller than India (about twice the size of Alaska and a third of the area the 50 US states). The climate in Argentina is mostly temperate, it is also arid in the southeast, and is subantarctic in the southwest. The natural resources in the country are: fertile plains, lead, zinc, tin, copper, iron ore, manganese, petroleum, and uranium. The land usage is:
10.03%- arable land (crops replanted after harvest- wheat, grain, etc.)
0.36%- permanent crop (crops not replanted after harvest- citrus, coffee, etc.)
89.61%- other (any land not arable or under permanent crops- meadows, etc.)
Some natural hazards are earthquakes and heavy flooding. Some environment issues are disappearing forests because of deforestation and high levels of lead in some places.
